Sea Urchins are a beautiful, natural product that make amazing and elegant ornaments. Whilst fragile and fairly thin-walled, they are probably stronger than you think they may be. They should still be handled with care though.
You can do many different things with urchins – they can be painted, dyed, gilded and sanded and then made into something that is unique as a fingerprint. If you break one, they can be easily glued back together again with a non-yellowing CA glue.
Cindy Drozda is a well known American turner who makes beautiful urchin ornaments. The videos below are her short two part tutorial on how she turns her hanging ornaments. She uses her own signature gouges which are available from her website at www.cindydrozda.com if you are interested in those, too.
Colours, Shades and Sizes: Urchins are a natural product and as such, colours and shades vary from one urchin to the next. We will always send the largest and best coloured urchins in stock for your order, but please note the urchin you receive will be different to the ones shown in the photos. We cannot offer a refund if you are unhappy with this natural product. The colours shown in the photographs have been reproduced as faithfully as possible. Therefore, colours and shades may look different on other devices and screens.
Packing and Shipping: Your urchins will be hand picked from our stock and wrapped carefully in plenty of bubble wrap to keep them in one piece in transit. Breakages may occur due to the fragile nature of the product. Should one or more break after it is in the care of the carrier, we are unable to send replacements. Should this happen the cost of the broken product will be refunded in full. We use FedEx for our shipping and have great faith in their door to door service. Shipping costs are what we pay the carrier so please do not contact us if you find the shipping costs higher than expected.
Safety Information: Not suitable for children under the age of 36 months as the shells may present a choking hazard.
